JUST IN:Sacramento Emerges as Surprise Suitor for Ja Morant – Memphis Weighing Future Moves

The Memphis Grizzlies face a pivotal offseason after a disappointing first-round playoff exit against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The reality is clear: their current roster isn’t strong enough to contend in the stacked Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Sacramento Kings—having missed the playoffs for two straight seasons—are also at a crossroads. With new GM Scott Perry looking to revitalize the franchise, a trade between these two struggling teams could benefit both sides.

Proposed Trade Package:
Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley recently suggested a bold move that would send Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant to Sacramento.

• Kings receive: Ja Morant
• Grizzlies receive: DeMar DeRozan, Devin Carter, Jonas Valančiūnas, and a 2027 first-round pick (top-three protected)

Why This Makes Sense for Sacramento:
After trading De’Aaron Fox to the Spurs, the Kings desperately need a dynamic playmaker to lead their offense. Morant, despite a slow start last season, regained his form post-All-Star break, averaging 27.6 points, 7.0 assists, and 1.0 steals over 18 games. As Buckley notes, “Sacramento couldn’t find a better Fox replacement than Morant, who brings a similar mix of speed, scoring, and playmaking.” Pairing him with Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis—alongside Keon Ellis and Keegan Murray—could elevate the Kings into playoff contention.

Memphis’ Perspective:
While trading Morant would be a tough pill to swallow, this deal offers immediate contributors (DeRozan, Valančiūnas) and future assets (Carter, a 2027 pick). DeRozan’s mid-range scoring would complement Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr., while Carter—last year’s No. 13 pick—has upside as a two-way player. However, the Grizzlies’ ceiling with this new core remains uncertain, making the draft pick a crucial long-term gamble.

Final Verdict:
Sacramento would likely need to sweeten the offer to convince Memphis, but this trade framework presents an intriguing opportunity for both teams. The Kings get a franchise-changing star, while the Grizzlies reload with proven talent and future flexibility. Will either side pull the trigger? Only time will tell.
