VfB Stuttgart is reportedly casting a wide net in its search for a replacement for departing forward Nick Woltemade, with one standout name emerging from Italy: Aleksandar Stanković. The €10 million-rated Inter Milan midfielder has caught the attention of Stuttgart’s scouting team, who consider him a potential ideal fit for their evolving squad.
Woltemade, on loan from Werder Bremen last season, contributed with energy and versatility in Stuttgart’s attack. However, with his return to Bremen confirmed and a permanent deal unlikely, Stuttgart are actively evaluating new targets who can bring similar dynamism and more long-term stability.
Enter Aleksandar Stanković, the 19-year-old son of former Serbian star Dejan Stanković, who is making waves at Inter Milan. Known for his tactical intelligence, impressive vision, and positional versatility, Stanković has already made senior appearances under Simone Inzaghi and has been praised for his composure beyond his years.
While primarily a central or defensive midfielder, Stuttgart’s technical staff reportedly view Stanković as a player who can seamlessly fit into multiple formations and contribute to the high-pressing, quick-transition style preferred by head coach Sebastian Hoeneß.
A potential transfer, however, won’t come cheap. Inter Milan values Stanković at around €10 million, and there are whispers of other Serie A and Bundesliga clubs monitoring his situation. Still, Stuttgart believes that securing a talent of Stanković’s caliber could be a long-term coup — especially as the club prepares for a return to European competition.
With the summer transfer window heating up, Stuttgart’s interest in Stanković signals ambition and a desire to continue building a young, competitive core. Whether a deal can be struck remains to be seen, but if they succeed, the Swabians could land one of the most promising young midfielders in European football.
