BREAKING NEWS: Mike Tomlin Becomes Longest-Serving Active Head Coach in U.S. Pro Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has officially become the longest-tenured active head coach in American professional sports. As he enters his 19th season leading the Steelers, Tomlin holds a career record of 183-107-2. His tenure includes two Super Bowl appearances—in 2008 and 2010—and a championship win in Super Bowl XLIII during just his second season.

Tomlin already held the distinction of being the longest-serving head coach in the NFL. Now, with the retirement of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich after an incredible 29-year run, Tomlin stands alone at the top across all major U.S. sports leagues.

Tomlin still has a few seasons to go before matching the legendary Chuck Noll’s 23-year reign in Pittsburgh from 1969 to 1991. His current contract runs through the 2027 season, which would give him 21 seasons with the team. Whether he continues beyond that remains to beseen.
