Anderlecht Shockingly Lose Out on the Pursuit of Swedish Star Benjamin Nygren as Celtic Inks His…
Celtic appear to have won the race for highly rated Swedish international Benjamin Nygren, with reports confirming that the club has agreed personal terms with the FC Nordsjaelland attacker. The 23-year-old, whose contract with the Danish club runs out in six months, is poised to join the Scottish giants despite growing interest across Europe—most notably from Belgian outfit Anderlecht.
Earlier this week, Nordsjaelland granted Celtic permission to engage in direct talks with the player, and those discussions now look to have paid off. According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Celtic and Nygren have reached an agreement, and negotiations between the clubs are underway to finalise a transfer fee.
“Celtic have agreed terms with Nordsjaelland winger Benjamin Nygren. It’s understood the clubs are now in talks to negotiate a fee for a potential deal,” Joseph revealed. “The 23-year-old is believed to have been sold on a move to Celtic, amidst a number of clubs in Europe interested.”
Valued at approximately £1.7 million, Nygren’s move could ultimately cost Celtic in the region of £2 million—a bargain for a player of his calibre and potential. An established international with Sweden and an impressive creative profile, Nygren fits the mould of a modern Celtic signing: young, ambitious, and ready to thrive under pressure at a club with high expectations.
Belgian side Anderlecht, who had also been keen to secure Nygren’s services, appear to have been informed of the winger’s decision. Transfer specialist Sacha Tavolieri, known for his reliable European football insights, confirmed that Nygren’s representatives made it clear to Anderlecht that the player has opted for a move to the Scottish Premiership.
“Anderlecht now considers Benjamin Nygren’s going to Celtic FC,” Tavolieri posted. “After talks with his representatives, RSCA understood Nygren chose the Scottish club over them. The Swede is now expected to complete his move shortly.”
Should the deal go through without any last-minute hitches, Nygren would become one of the most exciting additions to Celtic’s attacking arsenal ahead of the new season. His arrival would also send a clear signal of intent from Celtic’s recruitment team—willing to beat strong continental competition to land top-tier talent at great value.
For Celtic fans, it’s a moment of anticipation. For Anderlecht, it’s a significant blow in their summer transfer plans.
