Stuttgart in Talk to Sign €10M Rated Inter Milan Star as the Perfect Replacement for Nick Woltemade; Can He Fill the Void?

VfB Stuttgart have reportedly opened talks with Inter Milan over the potential signing of rising Serbian midfielder Aleksandar Stanković, as the Bundesliga club look to secure a capable replacement for the departing Nick Woltemade. The 19-year-old, currently rated at around €10 million, has emerged as Stuttgart’s top target to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new season.

Stanković, the son of former Inter and Lazio star Dejan Stanković, is highly regarded in Italy for his vision, passing range, and maturity beyond his years. After impressing in Inter’s youth setup and catching the eye during his loan spell at Sampdoria, the Serbian U21 international is now drawing attention from clubs across Europe. Stuttgart are leading the chase, viewing him as a long-term solution in central midfield following the exit of Woltemade.

Nick Woltemade’s departure, while not unexpected, left a creative void in Stuttgart’s attacking build-up and transitional play. The German midfielder played a key role last season, linking play between the lines and contributing both defensively and offensively. Finding a player with a similar profile has become a priority for Stuttgart’s sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth, who sees Stanković as a natural successor.

Sources close to the negotiations suggest talks are at an early but positive stage, with Stuttgart optimistic that a deal can be struck before the start of pre-season. Inter are open to discussing a sale, though they are keen to include a buy-back clause, aware of the youngster’s significant potential.

For Stuttgart, securing Stanković would mark a statement of intent as they aim to build on last season’s strong Bundesliga finish and push for European qualification. His arrival would add youthful energy and tactical versatility to Sebastian Hoeneß’s midfield setup, while also signaling the club’s ongoing commitment to nurturing top-tier talent.

If the deal materializes, Stanković could become one of the Bundesliga’s breakout stars in 2025—and the ideal answer to Woltemade’s absence.
