Ja Morant has a little extra reason to celebrate this week.
The Memphis Grizzlies’ star point guard has been awarded more than $300,000 by the Shelby County Chancery Court in Memphis, Tennessee, according to FOX 13. Morant had filed a lawsuit against local restaurant The Wing Guru, accusing the business of breaching their contract — and he has now emerged victorious.
Morant said he struck a deal with The Wing Guru several years ago to help promote the restaurant. But he later claimed they stopped paying him while continuing to use his name, image, and likeness in their marketing.
Court documents show that for months, Morant’s legal team — along with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office — attempted to serve The Wing Guru with a summons, but without success. Eventually, the court issued a default judgment in Morant’s favor after the restaurant failed to respond.
An arbitrator then determined the final outcome, siding with the two-time NBA All-Star. The ruling ordered The Wing Guru to stop using Morant’s likeness and to pay $300,000 in compensation, damages, and interest, along with an additional $65,000 for interest and legal fees.
Morant, 26, averaged 23.2 points and 7.3 assists per game last season and will enter his seventh NBA season in 2025–26. While the Grizzlies guard has faced lawsuits in the past as a defendant, this time he walked away with a significant legal win as the plaintiff.
