A Barnsley player returns after an absence among the most recent loan news.

Kieren Flavell, the goalkeeper for Barnsley, has returned from his loan at Bradford Park Avenue, the non-league team confirmed.
At the end of January, Barnsley allowed the stopper to sign with the Northern Premier League team.

Twenty-year-old Flavell signed a one-month contract with them, but his stay was prolonged, and he played nine games.

The Yorkshire group has now verified that he has returned to Oakwell.

Barnsley allowed Flavell to sign with Bradford Park Avenue in order to get senior experience in the league, and he will benefit from having played in the seventh division.

The League One team must now decide what to do with him moving forward. Moving temporarily to a higher level looks like the best course of action.

Although they have the option to keep him on for a further 12 months, his contract expires at the end of current campaign.

Flavell joined his present club through the academy and has been a consistent player at several young levels in recent years.

After sustaining a knee injury in 2020, the former England youth international has battled his way back.

Flavell has yet to play for the Tykes’ first team, however he has previously been a reserve.

Liam Roberts is now the top player for Barnsley, but when his contract expires, he is expected to return to Middlesbrough, leaving Ben Killip as his backup.

Last night, Neill Collins’ team lost 3-2 on the road at Portsmouth, a score that guaranteed promotion for their rivals.

The Tykes, who now sit fifth in the standings, still need to win in order to guarantee their spot in the playoffs. They have recently had some ups and downs in their form.

This weekend they return to play, first traveling to Blackpool on the road and then hosting Northampton Town at home.
