Celtic star Joe Hart comment that had teammate replying ‘you can’t say that’

Alistair Johnston was praying Joe Hart would score his penalty on Saturday so that he wouldn’t have to step up himself.

The Celtic goalkeeper was a surprise inclusion in the nominated five takers against Aberdeen and he actually had the chance to win it as the Hoops were flawless until that point and the Dons had missed one through Ryan Duncan. But the 37-year-old’s effort was poor and cracked the post.

The shoot-out went to sudden death and Johnston was one of the earliest takers after and he had been hoping it wouldn’t get that far. There was relief for the Canadian right-back when he saw his strike hit the net and even more when Hart when from zero to hero

But he has also revealed what Cameron Carter-Vickers said to him ahead of the shoot-out that had him warning his defensive colleague.

Joe Hart and Cameron Carter-Vickers celebrate

He explained: “I was just begging for the final whistle and then, of course, they scored.

“My first thought was, ‘I’m going to have to take a penalty. I’m just happy that thing went in. There was relief when Joe made the save. He had the chance to win and big Cameron Carter-Vickers said, ‘this is going to be a fairytale for Joe’.

“I said, ‘you can’t say that out loud, you’ve jinxed it!’ Then, he hit the post. I knew I was going to take the sixth penalty and that I was next. Cheers mate! When he saved that final one it was relief. Joe is so good at those, he’s in great form.”
