Thierry Small is offered a long-term contract by Charlton Athletic, with a condition that will kick in if an agreement isn’t reached.

The South London Press has received confirmation from Andy Scott, the technical director of Charlton Athletic, that Thierry Small has received an offer for a “long-term” deal.

Beginning in February and lasting through the conclusion of the season, the 19-year-old defender, who had previously played for Southampton and Everton, joined the Addicks.

However, Charlton also added a provision allowing them to decide whether to prolong his stay by an additional year.

Additionally, Scott stated in a sit-down interview with our publication earlier this week that the League One team had no plans to let go of the former England U18 international.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with his agents and we’ve made him a new offer, a long-term deal that he and his agents are considering,” he said to the South London Press.

“We will trigger the option and carry on with those conversations if that doesn’t happen by the deadline.

“We are thrilled that Thierry, who is an amazing person, will be returning next season. We hope that he stays for a very long period. We’ve extended him a contract offer so that he may have the time to become settled at a club, grow, and learn.

He’s only 19 years old. Though he has received some notice from an early age, people tend to overlook that he is still just 19 and continuously learning. We are sure that our personnel can make the most of his considerable talent and potential.

“Our goal is to hold onto him for as long as possible so that the benefit comes to us.”
