Exclusive: Aston Villa reach ‘complete agreement’ on new signing and second contract
Aston Villa have struck a “full agreement” with Ross Barkley, who will join the club from Luton Town in the coming days, according to Football Insider.

The Midlands giants are working on a deal to make the 30-year-old midfielder their first summer acquisition, as well as a second senior capture in the coming weeks, as they try to complete some of their transfer business early.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last Saturday (18th May) that Villa had begun discussions to re-sign Barkley after Unai Emery gave the transaction the green light.

Discussions have now continued, and it is thought that a comprehensive agreement has been reached following a breakthrough in negotiations.

Barkley wants to play in the Champions League next season, and Villa’s fourth-place position has given them an advantage over many other teams in their quest of his signature.

Multiple major Premier League teams, notably Newcastle United, have shown an interest, but, barring an unusual late collapse in discussions, he will join Villa soon.

After scoring five goals and four assists in 32 Premier League appearances for Luton this season while playing in a deeper role, the former Villa loanee has turned his career around after a rough period.

Rob Edwards, Luton’s manager, has declined to comment on the midfielder’s contract term, which has been questioned since his move last summer.
Andros Townsend, who signed a similar agreement when he joined at Kenilworth Road last summer, was given an extension to take him beyond the initial one-year term, sparking speculation over his contract.

Villa are also working on potential large additions, with the Champions League bringing a significant boost to sports director Monchi and manager Emery’s pay and transfer budget.

In other news, Aston Villa have received a record-breaking £160 million windfall.
