‘There was no escape’: Wolves star says he was ‘forced to join’ with departure looms.
Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fábio Silva has admitted that he was “almost forced” to join the club back in 2020.
Silva has struggled at Molineux since his £35 million transfer from Porto. The now-21-year-old arrived as a youngster with a lofty potential, but his five goals and six assists in 72 appearances make him a massive disappointment.
Loan transfers to RSC Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, and Rangers have helped Silva’s form, but the striker has no future with Wanderers. It was doomed from the start, it appears, as the striker has now opened out in a candid interview.
“I knew it wasn’t the time, and I had no plans to go to Wolves at the moment. Silva exclaimed, “I wanted to stay in Porto for another one or two years.”
“I was nearly forced. They informed me that if I didn’t go, I’d play for the B squad and not assist the club since their finances were terrible. There was no escaping.
“There were other interested parties, but everything was focused on Wolves. It would generate more revenue, but in football, things happen behind the scenes that you cannot control. “It was a good deal for everyone except me,” Silva explained.
Wolves are ready to let Silva leave.
Silva is apparently scheduled to depart the West Midlands permanently this summer, which might put an end to the nightmare. According to reports in Portugal, Rangers will not try to sign the attacker on a permanent basis, but other clubs are sure to be interested in unlocking his potential.
