Prior to the January transfer window opening, Unai Emery, the coach of Aston Villa, delivered a setback to AC Milan by expressing his wish to retain Clement Lenglet at the team.
According to Calciomercato.com, Emery was questioned about Milan target Lenglet’s future during his most recent news conference, which did not make for entertaining viewing for Milan supporters.
The French central defender is presently on loan from Barcelona to Aston Villa, but he hasn’t contributed much to the Villains’ success and has largely played in the Europa Conference League.
Milan believed an agreement could be reached as a result. It would require Barcelona to agree to a new contract with Milan after terminating his loan with Villa; this would be difficult but not unfeasible.
Despite Lenglet’s importance to the depth of the team, it appears that Emery and Villa have no intention of letting him depart early from his loan.
“Lenglet is a highly skilled individual. When the players had the day off, he also showed up to train. I told him how pleased I was with his development when we chatted. The team needs him right now, and I do too. The club and I have an agreement in place for him to assist us. Nothing has changed in this connection, in my perspective,” he declared.
It is apparent that Milan will not sign Lenglet absent a major development, and they will need to move quickly to get players like Lilian Brassier of Stade Brest.
