Head physiotherapist Danny Murphy’s departure has been confirmed by Newcastle United.
Murphy worked as a consultant for Charlton Athletic, the England Under-21 team, West Ham United, and Crystal Palace until joining Newcastle in October 2022. He was on a lengthy paternity leave, but he has now departed the club.
“The club would like to thank Danny for his hard work, professionalism, and development of the service during his 15 months with the first team, during which he has made a significant contribution to the club’s success,” the club said in a statement made public on Monday morning.
“We wish him and his family well for the future.”
Dan Ashworth, the sporting director of Newcastle, who Murphy had worked with throughout his tenure with the England Under-21 team, appointed Murphy. Ashworth was the director of elite development for the Football Association before.
Murphy’s exit occurs in the midst of Newcastle’s injury issue, as other players have missed time due to injuries in recent months. The team still has Elliot Anderson, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes, Nick Pope, Jacob Murphy, Matt Targett, and Javier Manquillo injured while Jamaal Lascelles has been recovering from an injury. This is in spite of the fact that Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Alexander Isak, and Joelinton have all recently returned from injury.
