Opinion: Bradford City have pursue new deal for attacker amid recent admission

Opinion: In light of the attacker’s latest admission, Bradford City is pursuing a new contract.

Although Bradford City is expected to undergo some rebuilding in the summer, certain players from their present roster need to be retained.

Bradford City will play in League Two for one additional year. They’ll be motivated to improve significantly during the summer, and their attempt to go back up the ladder will depend heavily on the outcome of their recruitment campaign.

However, there have been certain players this season that deserve recognition and should be retained for the remainder of the campaign.

Scottish attacker Jamie Walker is one of them. The Scottish player, who can be used as an offensive midfielder, winger, or striker, has six goals and three assists in all competitions. He was sidelined by an injury from late December to early March, yet he is still a valuable player because of his output and effort rate.

Walker’s contract expires this summer, raising concerns about his future, but Bradford City and Graham Alexander ought to consider keeping him around once this one ends.

A valuable accord
Prior to his injury, Walker was playing well in the winter, so there’s no reason he can’t contribute to Alexander’s transformation of the Bradford City team provided he can remain healthy and reach those heights.

Because of his flexibility, he can play in a number of offensive and midfield positions. With continued hard effort, he has the potential to become a great Valley Parade standard-setter.

The 30-year-old appears to be willing to stay as well. When asked if he would be interested in signing a new contract, he expressed his desire to continue with the team while acknowledging that he still had work to do to gain it.

There is a 12-month extension option that can be activated instead of signing a new contract. Walker has, nonetheless, proven he can be a useful member of the team, so signing a new contract would be an indication of Alexander’s trust in his talents and a reasonable assessment of what he can bring to Bradford City.

Walker, though, will be trying to hold onto his starting position until the end of the campaign to demonstrate his ability to contribute in the future.
