On June 3, Texas basketball head coach Rodney Terry announced a third commitment from former Vanderbilt Commodores signee and three-star Austin (TX) Oak Hill center Jamie Vinson to the 2024 recruiting class. Vinson chose Texas over offers from Kentucky, South Carolina, and Rutgers.
Who will be the next to commit to Texas basketball during the recruiting process?
Terry and his staff now have 12 scholarship players on the planned roster for the 2024-25 season, their first year in the SEC. Vinson joined the frontcourt unit on Monday. Texas may still add one more scholarship player to the roster if Terry and Co. decide to enter next season.
Vinson, an athletic lost post man, with great length and physical upside. He’s also showed the ability to be an effective floor spacer at the four or five position.
Late this spring, Terry and the Longhorns’ most pressing need was to acquire a two-way low post man to their rotation for next season. Vinson does provide the Longhorns with length, rebounding, and rim protection for next season.
Texas’ next steps on the recruiting road will attempt to generate momentum for the 2025 class through summer visits. Since late last year, the Longhorns have welcomed a few notable blue-chip official visitors from the 2025 class.
However, Texas will get more official visits in the months leading up to the start of the 2024-25 season.
Here’s our prediction for the next prospect to pledge to the Longhorns following Vinson on June 3.
Sebastian Williams-Adams, F
Texas is a major choice for elite high-four-star Houston (TX) St. John’s small forward Sebastian Williams-Adams, who is planning summer trips. Williams-Adams unofficially visited Texas last autumn on the weekend of Longhorns football’s season opener against DKR on September 2.
The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward from Houston is an attacking wing with a powerful presence on both ends of the court. Williams-Adams has tremendous potential as a two-way wing at the collegiate level.
Terry and his colleagues have been highly involved in Williams-Adams’ recruiting from his visit to Austin early last autumn. He plans to return to Austin to visit Texas in the summer or early fall.
Williams-Adams is also contemplating visiting the Kansas Jayhawks, Texas A&M Aggies, and Baylor Bears.
