Barnsley, Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United’s rivals appoint Chelsea coach as new boss

Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, and Rotherham United rivals hire Chelsea coach as new manager.
Burton Albion, the League One rivals of Barnsley, Huddersfield Town, and Rotherham United, have hired Mark Robinson as their new head coach.
A new era has begun at the Pirelli Stadium, following a change of ownership at the end of the 2023/24 season. There has also been a change in the dugout, with former Barnsley coach Martin Paterson leaving to pursue other opportunities.

He has been replaced by Robinson, who was formerly the head coach of the Chelsea Development Squad. The 57-year-old has previous experience in top management, having commanded AFC Wimbledon.

After taking over as Burton manager, Robinson stated, “I’m extremely proud to have been given this opportunity at Burton Albion.” When the new owners detailed their ambitions and objectives for the future, and I met Ben Robinson, I became very enthused about what we might do together here.

“The owners have been quite clear about their expectations; we want to construct a club that resonates with the fans, and style of play will be key to that. I want to build a squad that is entertaining to watch, aggressive, and energetic, one that the fans and town can rally behind and be proud to represent them.

“We aim to combine the team’s success with the development of young players, something I have been devoted to as a coach for the past two decades. The owners and I agree that this strategy will be critical to the club’s long-term prosperity, while keeping our primary focus on winning football games.

“I’m looking forward to getting started now and getting to know everyone throughout the football club, the fans, and the wider Burton community.”
