‘I would be open to it’ – Ex-West Brom, Southampton, and Charlton boss interested in Championship manager’s position
A former West Brom manager has responded to speculations connecting him with their Championship rivals.
Former West Brom manager Alan Pardew has responded to speculations connecting him with a position at the Baggies’ Championship rivals.
Earlier this week, it was rumored that Pardew was discussing a return to English football. He has not coached a team in England since his ill-fated tenure at the Hawthorns, which saw the club relegated in 2018.
Since being replaced by Darren Moore six years ago, the 62-year-old has managed clubs in the Netherlands, Bulgaria, and Greece. Burnley are looking for a new manager after Vincent Kompany departed for Bayern Munich, and Pardew has emerged as a leading possibility
Chelsea star Frank Lampard is the choice for the position, while interim head coach Craig Bellamy is expected to take over the post permanently after serving as caretaker in Kompany’s absence. Pardew said it would be a ‘wonderful chance’ and that he was open to returning to management.
“Well it obviously isn’t me,” Pardew stated during an appearance on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan. “Otherwise it would be officially announced!”
“It’s nice to be linked with them, if nothing else,” he said. “I believe the team is talented enough, the ownership is well-organized, and they have the necessary money – perhaps they are in a better position to rebound than Leicester were last year.
Pardew has been in football manager for 25 years, having started with Reading in 1999. He gained promotion with the Royals in 2002 and three years later helped West Ham United return to the Premier League by winning the play-offs in 2005.
His notable successes include two FA Cup runner-up finishes with the Hammers and Crystal Palace, as well as an EFL Trophy title with Southampton in 2010.
He continued: “For myself, it’s a great challenge that I would like to do because I’d like to take a team back to the Prem.”
